Overview

Sports stadia and sports clubs contribute significantly to the heath and wellbeing agenda, not just in terms of the sports and physical activity opportunities they provide, but also their work with local communities, their promotion and involvement in agendas relating to engagement with young people, health education and activities that improve health.

The Wigan Borough Healthy Stadia and Sports Club Network is the first borough wide initiative set up and launched in the UK . It has been commissioned by and is funded by Wigan Borough Council in order to work with sports stadia and clubs across the Wigan borough to support them in becoming healthier environments for their fans, staff, visitors and the local communities they serve.

Over the last 3 years working within the Borough the Network has worked with over 40 sports clubs and has achieved a great deal of successes to date, for more information see our Wigan Healthy Stadia and Sports Club Network Summary.
