Free Health Improvement Course

Free Health Improvement Course

The Royal Society for Public Health ‘Understanding Health improvement’ course is a free course provided by NHS Ashton, Leigh and Wigan.

The course is delivered over 7 learning hours but has flexibility to be delivered when it is convenient for your sports club – For example, the course was delivered over two Saturday mornings to the volunteers and coaches of New Springs Lions ARLFC.

It is a Level 2 accredited award which means there is a multiple choice exam at the end and a certificate for those that pass. ‘Understanding Health improvement’ is just that – it is an overview with no scientific or in depth study. It looks at what can have an impact on your health and what you can do to improve your health. It covers healthy lifestyle choices like healthy eating, safe alcohol limits, sexual health and physical activity.

It is a hands on course with many interactive games. The course fits well with the Healthy stadia concept as those that attend the course from your club will be able to take away skills to improve their own health as well as those who use and are involved in your club.

Those who attend can also maintain links with the NHS by signing up to become a health champion and receive regular updates of what’s happening with healthcare in the borough. Please contact Craig Hamilton – Health Improvement Worker – or call 01942 481722 for more information.
